This month’s Volunteer Spotlight leader is Nick Bartlett, a Young Life leaders with our Northeast Grand Rapids area.

Nick has been leading in the Forest Hills Central school system for four years, and has served as a co-team leader for the past two. Through his time with students through Young Life events as well as through coaching JV soccer, Nick provides an example of what it means to be consistent with outreach as well as discipleship over the long haul.

Nick is naturally passionate about loving people unconditionally and has consistently been a faithful presence in the lives of senior guys at Forest Hills Central. He continues to go where students are and share his life and faith with them.

Nick is always willing to help in the Northeast Grand Rapids Area and is quick to volunteer his time above and beyond what is required as a volunteer leader. He has also become a part of the Forest Hills Central community and has been a great advocate for Young Life in the parent community as well.

Nick grew up in Hawaii in an active, outdoor-centered environment. He continues to express and share a love for being active with the students he works with. Outside of his work with Young Life, Nick works full time as a Sales Director for WASH, a national laundry machine provider.

One of Area Director Matt DeHoog’s favorite memories of Nick comes from their time together serving on a Spring Break Trip in the Dominican Republic: “My favorite memory with Nick is leading in the Dominican him the past two years. Nick has such a strong heart for service, it’s always a blessing to see how God uses him. One specific example is Nick working with a Dominican worker named Aneudy, who is deaf and mute. Through pointing, body language and facial expressions, Nick was able to build a relationship with this guy and help build an amphitheater at Pico Escondido where kids will hear about Jesus for years to come.”

“Nick is one of the coolest guys I have ever met. He has always been there for me and I really look up to him. After I heard Nick’s life story freshman year I started to believe in Christ a lot more. Ever since then my life has changed in so many ways. He’s like a big brother that always makes sure I am doing the right thing and staying on the right path.” – Jackson Overlund, FHC Student
